March 16, 1932 ~ August 23, 2020 (age 88)

Obituary

Theresa McHugh, age 88, resided at Pickersgill Retirement Community passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at her daughter, Teresa’s home surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren.  A private mass and burial for immediate family will be held on September 4, 2020.  During these difficult Covid times, the McHugh family will plan a late spring celebration of Theresa’s life with everything that she loved the most: family, friends, a mass at Immaculate Conception, and her beloved Orioles.   In honor of this loving lady, donations may be made to  St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital care of Crouch Funeral Home at 127 South Main Street in North East, Maryland 21901.

Theresa was born March 16, 1932 in Hazelton Pennsylvania to the late Mary and William Cauley.  Theresa is one of six children and survived by her loving brother, Jack Cauley.  Educated in the St. Gabriel’s school system, she graduated Summa Cum Laude and became supervisor and manager at Bell Atlantic and Chesapeake and Pacific Telephone Companies.  Theresa and her husband, James Daniel McHugh met in kindergarten and married in August of 1958 and then moved to Baltimore with their first born in 1960.

Lovingly devoted to all five children and her husband, Theresa continued to live a life of service in her church and within the community. As President of the Rosary Confraternity, Theresa prayed the rosary and led studies of the scripture and served as a Eucharistic Minister.  She cared deeply for the elderly and the sick in nursing homes and became a companion to so many in throughout the parish. Theresa shared her love of all people and together with her family sponsored and welcomed a family from Viet Nam to live in their home. Theresa made sure that if someone needed a loving home to get settled, she would make it happen.  Theresa took great pride in planning bus trips to Emmitsburg and to the theatres in NYC.  She tutored and coached students for speeches for the Optimist International Society, enjoyed being an avid reader and lifelong learner and she was undoubtedly Baltimore’s number one Orioles Fan!

Spending time with family, laughing, and always a smile on her face, this loving devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend always thought of others first and shared her greatest gift, Love.

Theresa leaves to cherish her loving memory with her daughters, Kathleen McHugh, Patricia Nestor and husband Michael, Teresa Ellis and husband Tom, her son Jim McHugh and wife Robbyn, and daughter Jeanne McHugh and husband Dorian.  Theresa is survived by her grandchildren Lauren, Joseph Thomas, Camila, Kian ,Emma Jameson, Jack, Tess, Jamie and her husband Jerry, Katie and her husband Alvaro, and great granddaughter Sofia.

“ May the light of a smile and the love in your heart shine bright for all the world to see.”
