Suzann (Simpers) Barker

Suzann Simpers Barker, 93 of Charlestown, MD, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 in the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice House, Forest Hill, MD.

Born in Upland, PA, on June 20, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Merle W. and Bess K. (Fickes) Simpers.  She was the wife of the late Ernest Clay Barker who preceded her in death.

She graduated from Northern Providence High School in 1947.  Over the years she worked at Sun Shipyard, Chester, PA, Burroughs in Cochranville, PA, Motorola in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Storage Technology in Longmont, CO.  After she moved back to MD in June 1987, she worked at the Cecil County Detention Center until her retirement.

Suzann belonged to the VFW in CO.  She was also a member of the Cecil County Ladies Auxiliary and held positions from Historian to President from March 2010 to March 2012. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of North East Fire Company for 35 years, holding positions including income tax subtraction and several other committees, and was active until her death.

Survivors include her sister: Linda B. Slicer (Late Willard Ollie Slicer); nieces: Sally LaFontaine (Gary) and Susan Riggs; nephew: Robert Simpers (Kareen) of Inverness, FL; several great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She also had very special family: Kimberly and Karl Hainsey from NC.  She will be sadly missed.

Graveside service will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Anne's Memorial Gardens, 315 South Main Street, North East, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Suzann may be made to the North East Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, in care of the funeral home.
