Robert Earl Phillips, 100 of Charlestown, MD, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022.
Born in Mechanics Valley, near North East, MD, on March 6, 1922, he was the son of the late Earl and Theresa (Hammond) Phillips. He was the husband of the late Rebecca E. (Cooper) Phillips who passed on December 18, 2018.
Robert retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground where he worked as a carpenter. He also managed Elkton Supply company’s North East Branch.
He was a charter member of the Charlestown Fire Company, a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees; Masonic Lodge #48, Eastern Star #84, Sons of the American Revolution, Henry Hollingsworth Chapter. Also the Tuscan Royal Arch Chapter #42, Concordia Council #1 RSM, MD Commandery #1 KT; was a former Mayor of Charlestown, served on the Board of Commissioners, member of the Historical Society, Colonial Charlestown, Har-CE Forrest Tall Cedars, Boumi Shriners and the Susquehanna Shrine Club.
Survivors include his sister: Virginia Cloud of Nanticoke, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers: Roger and William Phillips.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am.
Interment with fire department honors will be held in Charlestown Cemetery, Charlestown, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Charleston Fire Company, in care of the funeral home.
