John M. Bates

John M. Bates, age 77 of Chesapeake Isle, North East, MD, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Laurelwood Care and Rehabilitation, Elkton, MD. Born in Bridgeport, CT, on September 29, 1933, he was the son of the late Raynham T. and the late Priscilla Clarke Bates. John was a graduate of the PA Military College with a degree in Accounting. He spent time in the military serving in Korea and Japan. John retired as a Facility Manager for the DuPont Company, Wilmington, DE after 32 years of service and 10 moves. He was a member of St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, North East, MD and the Chesapeake Isle Civic Association in which he had been very active since 1976. John enjoyed crabbing, boating, woodworking, gardening, traveling, bocce, working in the community and supporting his wife in her art business. He is survived by his wife Anne Driehaus Bates; daughter, Susanne Bates of Baltimore, MD; son, Steven D. Bates and his wife Mary C. and their 2 children, Theo and Samuel of Cold Spring, NY; daughter, Heather Krasman and her husband Todd D. and their 3 children, Drew, Rian and Madelyn of North East, MD. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. A Memorial service, conducted by Father Samuel Hartman will be held Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East, MD. Interment will be in the Christine Cameron Memorial Garden in the St. Mary Anne's Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice in care of the funeral home.
