Woodrow Ralph Smith of Aberdeen, Maryland, died at Harford Memorial Hospital on July 24, 2005, at the age of 82. He was born May 23, 1923, in Worth, West Virginia, and was the son of the late James Clyde and Bessie Mae Choate. Mr. Smith retired as supervisor of Test Facilities at Aberdeen Proving Ground after 32 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Dulaney Smith of Aberdeen, son Richard R. Smith, Rising Sun; daughter: Linda Lloyd, Clarksville, Tennessee, five grandchildren, and one great grandson. He was predeceased by a son James Smith in September 1998. He is also survived by brothers James C. Smith, Creswell, Maryland; Ray Smith, Middle River, Maryland; and Lewis Smith, Havre de Grace, Maryland, and predeceased by a brother Donald Smith and sister Ruth Ann Ray. Mr. Smith was a member of American Legion Post 28, Aberdeen, Maryland. He was an avid stock car racer for 50 years, traveling from New York to Florida. He enjoyed trap shooting and was a past president of the Cedar Gun Club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, SCUBA diving, and repairing engines. Memorial services will be held at the Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church, 409 North Paradise Road, Aberdeen, Maryland, on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tim Dowell will officiate.
