William Lusby Whiteman

William Lusby Whiteman went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 10, 2015 after a short illness.  His daughter and son, Darlene and William, were with him when he made his final journey to his heavenly father.

He was born on September 12, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA.  His parents were Willard Lusby Whiteman and Mary Alice (Buskirk) Whiteman.  He grew up on a farm in Cecilton.  He was a life-long resident of Cecil County.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and was a member of the National Guard.  He was predeceased by his father and mother, as well as his two sisters, Katherine (Kitty) Reeder and Mary Ellen Smith.  He worked as an assembly worker at General Motors; surveying with Mike McAlister in Elkton; and as a cook at the Shafer’s Canal House.

Mr. Whiteman was a wonderful singer and an accomplished guitarist.  Music was his love and passion.  He was a band member of the “Country Cousins.”  They performed all over the Philadelphia Metro area.   Hank Williams was his all-time favorite country music artist. Fishing at Turkey Point for bass and rock fish was one of his favorite past-times. He loved taking his children to Cramer’s Beach for picnics and swimming. He enjoyed gardening and cooking.  He was fascinated by scientific, religious, political, and historical literature and documentaries.  He was always eager to discuss for hours those subjects with his family and friends.

Mr. Whiteman is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Shirley Whiteman, of Rising Sun, MD.  They were married on July 24, 2000 and lived in Rising Sun, MD.

He is also survived by his five children:  Darlene M. Whiteman-Nybo and former spouse Marc of North East, MD; William C. Whiteman and his wife, Kelly, of Charlestown, MD; Charlene L. Whiteman of Elkton MD; George W. Whiteman of North East, MD; and Cheryl Barber Hardesty and husband, Brandon, of Logan, OH;  his two brothers, Willard Whiteman and Edward Whiteman of Elkton, MD;  his six grandchildren:  Dusty L. Whiteman, Michael D. Whiteman, William L. Whiteman, Cassie M. Nybo, Katie E. Nybo, and Christina M. Whiteman; and his three great-grandchildren, Shane, Jacob and Faith, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is also survived by his two-step children:  Regina Herrin and husband, Robert, of Glen Burnie, MD; and Ronald L. Smith and wife, Diane, of Baltimore County, MD.  He was predeceased by his step-son, William (Eddie) Smith of Rising Sun, MD.

The funeral viewing will be 1 p.m.-2 p.m. and the funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 S. Main St., North East, MD on December 14, 2015.  Interment will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery.
