William Horace Taylor, Sr., 85 of North East, MD, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at home. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, on November 9, 1924, he was the son of the late William A. and the late Marie Mitchell Taylor. Mr. Taylor was the beloved husband of 21 years of Pauline Wherry Taylor of North East and the late Rosalie W. Taylor for 34 years. A Cecil County resident for over 50 years, he served during World War II in the Army. He retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground where he worked as Chief in the Weapons Processing Division. He was a member of North East United Methodist Church, North East, MD, Boy Scouts of America 1962-1980, American Legion for 32 years, Odd Fellows for 60 years and the 37th Ordinance Company Association. He was Chairman of the Southwest Florida Gem, Mineral and Fossil Club and also for the Lakeside Community Church in St. James City, FL. He enjoyed camping and fishing. His favorite hobby was creating freeform jewelry, semi-precious faceted jewelry, casting of gold and custom rings. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his son: William H. Taylor, Jr. and his wife Vanessa of Warwick, MD; his stepchildren: David N. Wherry and his wife Sandra of North East, MD and Dana W. Weaver and her fiancé Vernon W. Metcalfe of Nottingham, PA; 2 brothers: Robert Taylor and his wife Nan of Havre de Grace, MD, Warner Taylor of Havre de Grace, MD; 3 grandchildren: Aaron Taylor, Alison Taylor and Mackenzie Taylor; his step-grandchildren: Tara-Jene Racine and her husband David, David N. Wherry and his wife Shawn, Stephen Wherry and his wife Amy, Rebekah Wherry and Amy Wherry; and his great grandchildren: Jakob W. Taylor, Taylor Racine, Bailey Racine, Connor Wherry, Elizabeth Wherry and Anna Claire Wherry. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was also preceded in death by a sister: Helen Preston and a brother, Charles "Bucky" Taylor. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will follow services in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD.
