William L. Ewing, Sr.

William L. 'Bud' Ewing, Sr., 88 of Elkton, MD, died suddenly Monday, October 17, 2011 at home. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in North East on April 21, 1923, the son of the late Daniel Leon and the late Mammie Dennison Ewing. He was the husband of the late Mary E. Ewing who died on June 10, 1972. Bud worked for 27 years at Aberdeen Proving Ground as an X-Ray Tech of Munitions. He also was a school bus driver for 20 years. He was a Life member of the North East Volunteer Fire Dept., where he served as past president, director and chief engineer and was inducted into the Harford-Cecil Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Cecil County Fire Police, serving as past Lt.; a life member of V.F.W. Post 8175, Elkton, MD and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was an avid hunter and crabber. Survivors include his companion: Viva Startt of Elkton, MD; his children: Rosemary Potter and her companion Rich of Elkton, MD, Linda Davis of Wilmington, DE, Sandra Feltman and husband Richard of Elkton, MD, William L. Ewing, Jr. and wife Jenney of AK, Leila Griffith and fiancé Jason of Wilmington, DE and Howard Ewing and companion Karen of North East, MD; his siblings: Dorothy Hopkins and James Ewing both of North East, MD, Carl Ewing of Perryville, MD, Mary Lou Miller of North East, MD and Robert Ewing of TX; 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings: Charles, Hazel, Katherine, Olive, Frances and Elizabeth; and 2 grandchildren: Russell and Adam. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Interment with full military honors will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to: North East Volunteer Fire Department or V.F.W. Post 8175, both in care of the funeral home.
