William A. Horner, 81 formerly of North East, MD and Havre de Grace, MD, passed away peacefully at Ware Presbyterian Village, surrounded by loving friends and caring staff on Monday, May 10, 2010. Born in Bridgeport, OH, on October 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Elzie and the late Mary Woodward Horner. He grew up in Denton, MD in a family of seven children. He was a graduate of Salisbury State College and earned his masters degree from Appalachian State College in Boone, NC. He began teaching 6th grade at Havre de Grace Elementary School in 1954 and moved to Havre de Grace Middle School in 1967 where he taught science. He served as teacher, friend and mentor to students and colleagues for 39 years and was named to the Harford County Public School Educator Hall of Fame in 2001. He is survived by a sister, Peggy of Townsend, DE, brother, Pat of Newark, DE, brother Archie of Dustin, CA; 14 nieces and nephews; and close friends, the Koszela Family of Elkton, MD and the Blomquist Family of North East, MD. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Ware Presbyterian Village on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 2:00 PM.
