William John Green, 79, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

Born on June 4, 1947, in Bud, West Virginia, William was the son of the late Leland Clarence Green and Alley Mae Hylton Green.

William proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years. His time in the military was a meaningful chapter of his life and reflected the sense of dedication, loyalty, and commitment that he carried with him throughout the years.

William was a man who appreciated life's simple pleasures, especially when they were shared with the people he loved. He enjoyed playing bingo, working on jigsaw puzzles, and spending time at his family's campsite at Woodlands Camping Resort. Some of his most treasured moments were the quiet ones spent alongside his wife, Wanda. The two enjoyed taking long drives together, often ending their outings by watching the sunset at Charlestown Park or North East Town Park.

A proud graduate of North East High School's Class of 1966, William attended the original high school on East Cecil Avenue, the building that now serves as North East Middle School. His roots in the community remained an important part of his life. William was also a member of Bay Church, where he valued his faith, fellowship, and the friendships he made over the years.

Above all else, William's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love for those closest to him was evident throughout his life. The time spent together, the stories shared, and the many ordinary moments that became treasured memories will be lovingly carried forward by his family.

William is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Lee Green of Elkton, Maryland; his children, Charles Robert Ruble and his wife, Heather, of Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania; Theresa Lee Ruble of Baltimore, Maryland; William Edward Green and his wife, Nicole, of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania; John Lee Green of Elkton, Maryland; and Wanda Lynn Meadows and her husband, Elijah, of Middletown, Delaware. He is also lovingly remembered by his 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, as well as extended family members and dear friends whose lives were touched by his presence.

A funeral service celebrating William's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, at Bay Church, 2256 Pulaski Hwy, North East, Maryland, with Rev. Mike Sites officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit beginning at 12:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service.

His familiar presence will be deeply missed, but the love he gave so freely and the moments shared with him will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
