William M. "Bud" Gibson, age 76, of North East, Maryland, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Delaware. Born in Port Deposit, Maryland, on September 23, 1927, he was a son of the late Merrill G. Gibson and Mae Stebbing Gibson Keene. Bud was a lifetime resident of Cecil County, Maryland. Upon graduation from Tome School, Port Deposit, Maryland, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1946, and retired in June 1968, as a Chief Petty Officer. During his Naval service, he served on numerous ships and duty stations, which included a tour of service with the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C., the Staffs of Commander Service Force, Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia, and the Commander Service Force, Pacific, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was awarded the Joint Chiefs of Staff Medal for outstanding Meritorious Service and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Service Badge. Upon retirement from the U.S. Navy, he worked for Jackson Marine Sales, North East, Maryland as an Office Manager; he also worked for, E.I. DuPont & Company, Newark, Delaware as a vendor expediter, the S & W Engineering Company, North East, Maryland as an office manager and the First National Bank of North East, North East, Maryland, as an Assistant Vice President, and he retired as an assistant purchasing agent with Benjamin F. Shaw Company, Wilmington, Delaware. Bud was a member of the North East United Methodist Church, North East, Maryland, the American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194 Rising Sun, Maryland, the Fleet Reserve Association, Rising Sun, Maryland, the USS Coral Sea CVB-43 Association, and the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, Washington, D.C. and he was a past secretary and treasurer of the North East Lions Club for three years. He enjoyed bowling and being a mentor at the North East Elementary School, North East, Maryland.Bud was the husband of, Constance L. "Dolly" Gibson, North East, Maryland; and his siblings, Phillip Gibson, Leesburg, Florida and Mary Ann Smith, Port Deposit, Maryland. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 16, 2003, at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, Maryland. Family and friends are invited to visit one hour prior to services and also Wednesday evening, October 15, 2003, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. The Rev. Boyd B. Etter of the North East United Methodist Church, 308 South Main Street, North East, Maryland will officiate. Interment will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, Maryland with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the North East Fire Company, c/o, Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, Maryland 21901.
