Virginia Blake Howard, 90, passed away on November 30, 2015, at her home in Perryville, Maryland.  She was born on July 18, 1925, in North East, MD, the daughter of T. Kennard and Helen Moffitt Blake.

Virginia grew up in North East and graduated from North East High School in 1942.  She was a 1945 graduate of the University of Delaware. After graduation, she taught World History and Spanish at Elkton High School.

On November 24, 1948, Virginia married Lowell Howard in North East and they were happily married for 66 years.  In 1965, she and Lowell opened Howard’s Market in North East.  They sold the business in 1979.  From 1982 until 2015, Virginia acted as bookkeeper for Lindy’s Market. She and Lowell moved to Perryville in 1988.

Virginia was well known in the county as an excellent bridge player, having been a member of a local bridge club and attending bridge parties for over sixty years.

Virginia is survived by daughter Pamela and her husband Jacob Zahn of Port Deposit; daughter Lynn and her husband Tom Amrein of Port Deposit; daughter Leigh and husband Patrick Fleming of Martinsburg, WV; grandson Thomas Howard Fleming of Durham, NC; granddaughter Liza Blake Fleming of Philadelphia, PA; step-grandson Joshua Zahn and family of Elkton; step-grandson Josiah Zahn and family of Fawn Grove, PA; step-grandson Jeromy Amrein and family of Bel Air, MD; step-grandson Justin Amrein and family of Jarrettsville, MD; step-granddaughter Danna Amrein and family of Abingdon, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Friends Cemetery, Calvert, Maryland, Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cecil County Public Library, 301 Newark Avenue, Elkton, MD 21921.
