Listen to Obituary

Ulysses Grant Demond IV, aged 70, of North East, MD, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Born on May 22, 1955, in Elkton, MD, he was the son of the late Ulysses G. "Nick" Demond III and Lucia G. (Grant) Demond.

Grant was a lifelong resident of North East, MD. He served on the Election Board for the Town of North East since 2003, including several terms as Chairman.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Tonya Demond, and his four children: Nicole S. Cameron (Cort), and Ulysses Grant Demond V (Bridget), both of North East, MD, Tiffany A. Ferris (Patrick Sr.), of Middletown, DE, and Whitney E. Demond (Kenneth Leonard), of Reston, VA. Grant is also survived by his sister, Gabrielle D. Oldham (John), of Cecilton, MD, and a close cousin, Lauren G. Eib (Eric Shoemaker), FL. He was also the proud grandfather of Silvie A. Wilson, Jackson D. Gehman-Cameron, Delilah A. Gehman-Cameron, Ulysses G. Demond VI, Benjamin W. Demond, Henry S. Demond, Samuel B. Demond, Aubrey A. Ferris, Patrick R. Ferris Jr., Peyton J. Ferris, and Allie M. Ferris.

He enjoyed playing several sports in his younger years, playing volleyball and slow and fast pitch softball for various teams in Maryland and Delaware. He passed on his love and passion for sports to his children and then eventually his grandchildren. Grant spent innumerable hours traveling from one sporting complex to another, just to catch a glimpse of his family's sporting events, sometimes just to see one at-bat or one set of downs. He spent countless hours researching equipment to purchase for his grandchildren to practice with at home (or even sometimes inside the home). He always wanted his family members to be improving themselves.

Grant also had a long-lasting love for hunting waterfowl, which included traveling to the Eastern Shore with long-time best friends, Huck and Jeff. This love was passed down to his son, Grant, and then to his grandsons. He made sure, though, that every grandchild that came over for a visit would experience blowing a duck or goose call and even feeding the corn to the local ducks. This was a long-lasting family tradition for each grandparent to experience with their grandchildren.

In recent years, Grant added a new hobby: grandchild chauffeur. He became the morning school drop off driver for his grandsons, Grant, Ben, and Henry, and continued his duties in the afternoons when he picked up Ben and Henry from elementary school. This turned into another tradition: Wednesday treat day, where the boys would get either Rita's or slushies. He combined this with his love for sports and was always quick to offer or accept the opportunity to drive the boys to their games or practices. Grant's hobbies were as simple as this: if it involved his family, he would be there, and he would have a smile on his face and love in his heart.

In addition to his parents, Grant was preceded in death by his sister, Lucinda A. Demond.

Funeral Services will be held at Crouch Funeral Home P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 7:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 5:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cecil County Ducks Unlimited or the North East Little League, both in care of the funeral home.
