Thomas J. Jenkins, 82 of Charlestown, MD, formerly of Downingtown, PA, died Monday, September 4, 2006 in the Perry Point VA MD Healthcare System, Perry Point, MD. Born in Hazelton, PA, on January 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas and the late Avis Bechtloff Jenkins. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He is a graduate of Scott High School Class of 1941 in Coatesville, PA. Tom was a member of: Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. Coatesville, PA, Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, V.F. W. Post 6027 of North East, MD where he served as Quartermaster, member of the American Legion Post #135 Perryville, MD, and the Navy Fleet Reserve. He was a Yardmaster, employed by The Reading Railroad and Conrail. He retired in 1985 with 38 years of service. Survived by his wife: Eleanor A. Jenkins and two sons: Edwin D. Jenkins of Oberlin, PA and James S. Jenkins of Pottstown, PA Stepsons, Joesph Chip Rider of Downingtown, PA, and Stephen Rider of Palm Springs, CA; Stepdaughters, Nancy Lorback of West Chester, PA, and Mary Stancyk of Carmichael, CA. One brother: Dr. Stanley S. Jenkins of McColl, SC. He was preceded in death by a son, T. Glyn Jenkins. Also survived by 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where family and friends may call Friday, September 8, 2006 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 pm.
