Listen to Obituary

Shirley Jean Weaver, age 87, passed away on June 5, 2026, comfortably at home surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 11, 1938, as Shirley Jean McCreary Hawkins, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Mabel Hawkins.

She lost her father as a teenager and was especially close to her oldest brother, Grover. She began working while still in high school as a bookkeeper and continued in that field until she began working for Cecil Community College, from which she retired after 30 years of service. She started in the registrar's department and later became the Athletic Department Administrative Assistant, where she greatly enjoyed helping students and athletes. She was honored with induction into the inaugural Cecil College Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. She will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, her cooking—particularly her chicken and dumplings—and her green thumb.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, James Martin Weaver; her three daughters, Karen, Sharon, and Kathy (Jeff); and her three granddaughters, Alicen, Alexis, and Camryn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Grover and Allen. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their attentive care.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations in honor of Shirley Jean Weaver to the Dementia Society of America. https://Dementia Society of America/donate
