Shirley Gatchell Andrews

Shirley Gatchell Andrews, 72 of Elkton, MD, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009 at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in North East, MD, she was the daughter of the late Earl and the late Edna McKinney Gatchell. Mrs. Andrews retired in 1995 from Harford Memorial Hospital after 24 years of service. She had also worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground for 19 years. Mrs. Andrews loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and playing cards every Saturday night. She is survived by her husband of 15 years: B. James Andrews; her children: J. Bryon Boyd III and wife Sharon of Port Deposit, MD, Sharon Boyd McCracken and husband Teddy of North East, MD; stepsons: Jay Andrews of Colora, MD, Donald Andrews and wife Laura of Lansing, IL, Jeff Andrews and wife Sue of Havre De Grace, MD; grandchilden: J. Bryon Boyd IV, Blayne, Jared, Carson and Katie Boyd, Olivia and Evan Martin; step grandchildren: Kyle and Brandon McCracken, Justin, Jessica, Jayme, Samantha, Erin and Abigail Andrews; and adopted granddaughter, Christina Welch; four sisters: Betty Noel of Perryville, MD, Barbara Raech and husband Paul of Earleville, MD, Gloria "Jean" Racine and husband William of Elkton, MD, Darlene Gatchell of Elkton, MD and one brother: Roger Gatchell and wife Rosemary of North East, MD. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Bryon Boyd, Jr. and two brothers: Earl and Robert Gatchell. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Daniel T. Gedman will be held Friday, October 16, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will follow in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD.
