Rufus P. Slate

Rufus P. Slate, 83 of North East, MD, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 in the Christiana Hospital, Christiana, DE. Born in Russell County, VA, on October 5, 1923, he was the son of the late Thomas and the late Mattie Helton Slate. He served during World War II in the Navy. Mr. Slate is a member of the North East Volunteer Fire Department, V.F.W. Post 8126 Havre de Grace, MD, American Legion Post 47, Havre de Grace, MD and the Elk's Lodge also in Havre de Grace, MD. He was a Mechanic, employed by Perry Point VA Medical Center for 35 years and worked part time at Lynch's service Station in Havre de Grace, MD for 30 years. Survived by his wife: Mabel Slate, three daughters: Carol J. Stewart of North East, MD, Bonnie M. Katz of Blacksburg, VA, Elaine G. Hintze of Elkton, MD and two sons: Thomas C. Slate of North East, MD, Allen E. Slate of Miami, FL. one sister: Annie Hubble of Warren Robins, GA. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren. Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD., where family and friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
