It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rodney DeMond Collins, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left this world on April 14, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on March 2, 1946, in Elkton, MD, Rodney lived a life rich in love and labor, evident through the many lives he touched and the beautiful structures he crafted as a self-employed carpenter with his company, Rainbow Construction.
Rodney was a proud US Army veteran, embodying the spirit of duty and dedication that defined his service. His commitment and camaraderie carried into his visits at VFW Post 6027 in North East, MD, where he formed lasting friendships and shared countless stories that brought laughter and warmth to all who gathered with him.
He is survived by his cherished daughter, Sonia Santizo, and her husband, Gavin R. Santizo of Dagsboro, DE. His spirit lives on in his grandchildren—Jonna K. Boyd of Nottingham, PA, Marissa M. Collins, Alaiza R. Santizo, and Salvador J. Santizo, all of Dagsboro, DE—as well as in his seven great-grandchildren, who filled his heart with boundless joy. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, Rebecca Burton of North East, MD and Emily Vuotto, and her husband, John of Collegeville, PA.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents: Kellis B. Collins, Sr. and Gladys Adele (Smith) Collins; siblings: Harold "Butch" Collins, Juanita Suppa, Delbert Myrle Collins, Kellis B. Collins, Jr.; and grandson: Rodney Steven Collins.
As we reflect on Rodney's kindness, strength, and the joy he brought into our lives, we are reminded of the values he imparted to those who loved him.
