Robert E. Thompson, Jr.

Robert Earlen Thompson, Jr., 78 of North East, MD and Clarksburg, WV, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 surrounded by his loving family in Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born in Nutter Fort, WV, on October 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Robert E. Thompson, Sr. and the late Bertha May Williams Thompson. He was the beloved husband of Nioma H. 'Sue' Thompson of North East, MD. Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Army for 11 years as a Private First Class. He was a building contractor with Thompson Corp. He also worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground with Tero Tek International and Jacobs Engineering, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and gardening. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his children: John L. Thompson of Elkton, MD, Samuel J. Thompson, Sr. of North East, MD and Genese E. Mackie of Elkton, MD; a stepdaughter, Karen E. Harris of North East, MD; a sister, Margaret Tyson of North East, MD; 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy M. Thompson who died in 1977; a brother, Gene Franklin Thompson who died in 1963; and his first wife and mother of his children, Delores Ann Thompson Lawson who died in 1991. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Rev. Dr. Allen P. Dickerson will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow in Union Cemetery, Elkton, MD
