Robert Adolph Jones, 85 of North East, MD, died Friday, August 26, 2011 at Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in North East on October 16, 1925, the son of the late George R. and the late Harriet Eklund Jones. Mr. Jones was the beloved husband of 62 years to Nora Jones of North East. He served his country admirably during World War II in the Navy. He served aboard the Battleship Missouri and was present for the signing of the surrender of the Japanese Forces to the Allied Powers on Sept. 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay. Mr. Jones retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was a member of American Legion Post #135, Perryville, MD; V.F.W. Post #6027, North East, MD and the Oxford Gun Club, Oxford, PA, where he greatly enjoyed trap shooting. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his children: Dale R. Jones of Elkton, MD; Sherry A. Ayers and Nancy E. Celaschi both of Port Deposit, MD; 5 grandsons; Charles and Alan Ayers, David and Daniel Green and Joshua Jones; 1 step granddaughter: Torrie Bailey; 4 step great grandchildren: Bryce, Brady, Alayna and Ragan; a brother: Roy Jones of Perryville, MD; 2 sisters: Helen Gamble of Rising Sun, MD and Ann Lambert of Davidsonville, MD; and his two constant companions, his Labs: Molly and Sadie. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 sisters: Catherine McGuire and Ella Thomas. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mary Browne will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.
