It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Robert L. Gell, who departed this life peacefully on March 22, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on January 21, 1935, in Nebraska, Robert dedicated his life to education, service, and his community, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and commitment.
Robert served as the esteemed President of Cecil College for 24 years, contributing immensely to the academic landscape of the institution and shaping the lives of countless students. His unwavering passion for education was matched only by his devotion to his community, where he actively engaged in various civic activities, including serving as Town Commissioner for Charlestown and participating in the Democratic Party. A dedicated member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Charlestown, he was involved in missionary work and served on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Cecil County, reflecting his deep commitment to nurturing future generations.
In his personal life, Robert cherished time spent on his beloved boat, "Pairadocs," creating lasting memories on the water.
He is survived by his devoted children: daughter, Angela Stanaway of Jamaica, VA and son, Greg Gell, of Portland, OR; granddaughter, Emily Stanaway of Jamaica, VA; as well as his caring siblings, sister Donna Lindburg and brother Kenneth Livingston, Jr. Robert’s profound impact on those around him will be felt for years to come.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Kahn Gell; his parents, Harry Gell and Bertha (Schmidt) Gell; and his brother, Gordon Gell.
