Robert Edward “Bob” Fitzgerald, born July 29, 1946, in Newark, New Jersey, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, hard work, and dedication to his family and fellow veterans.

Bob was the beloved husband of Joan, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his three children, Jason, Fred, and Lisa; a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren; and a loving great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren.

In 1969, Bob answered the call to serve his country and proudly joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Vietnam War from July 1970 through May 1971. For his service, Bob earned the Vietnam Service Medal with one star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.

Following his honorable service in the Marines, Bob began a long and successful career as a bricklayer. He took great pride in his work and spent the rest of his working life in the trade, retiring at the age of 72.

Bob was a proud Legacy Lifetime Member of Cecil County Memorial VFW Post 6027 and served for many years as the Post’s Service Officer.

Bob will be remembered as a proud Marine, a dedicated husband, a loving father and grandfather, a skilled craftsman, and a tireless advocate for veterans. His commitment to his family, his country, and his fellow veterans touched many lives and will not be forgotten.

A Memorial Service honoring his life and service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Cecil County Memorial VFW Post 6027, 815 Turkey Point Road, North East, Maryland 21901. Formal services will begin at 3:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come together to pay tribute to a life of service and to honor the memory of a Marine who will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
