Robert Bishop Johnson

Robert Bishop Johnson Bob, 87 of North East, MD, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Manor Care in Wilmington, DE. Born in Wilmington, DE on January 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles Irwin and the late Dorothea Pyle Johnson. In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Holt Johnson. Bob served in the U. S. Navy during WWII from September, 1943 through May, 1946. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he went to work for his father-in-law, Harold W. Holt, who owned Holt Tires, Inc. in Wilmington. Bob later bought the tire business from Harold Holt and worked it until he retired in 1984. Bob went on to work for his son-in-law, Ron Barrows at the Long Branch Saloon in Rehoboth Beach, DE from 1984 until 1986. He then went to work for the Rehoboth Beach Country Club in charge of golf cart maintenance from 1986 to 1999. Bob loved living at the river and working on his wooden boat. Bob is survived by two daughters: Jo Barrows and her husband Ron of Rehoboth Beach, DE; Babs Waters and her husband Jim of North East, MD. Grandchildren: Brian Barrows and his wife Jenn of Rehoboth Beach, DE; Laurel Ellis and her husband Jason of Havre de Grace, MD; Crystal Starling and her husband Chris; Bryan Waters and John Waters all of North East, MD; and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private.
