Richard P. Shelley, 80 of Rising Sun, MD, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, MD.

Born in NY, on December 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Frank and the late Lucille (Chase) Shelley.

He was a graduate of Wells Maine High School.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Over the years, Richard worked as a Bartender at the Beachcomber and VFW Post 6027; for Russell’s Sunoco, Pirelli Cable, K-Mart and Mount Arrat Farms.  He was a school bus driver and a county bus driver for the Dept. of Aging.

He was a member of the Charlestown Volunteer Fire Dept., Charlestown, MD, serving as Chief for several years, and also of the American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194, Rising Sun, MD.

Survivors include his loving wife: Ada M. Shelley of Rising Sun, MD: his children:  Doug Shelley (Debbie) of North East, MD, Danny Barrow of Rising Sun, MD, Michael Barrow (Beth) of WV, David Barrow of Rising Sun, MD and Rita Racine (David, Jr.) of North East, MD; a brother: Charles Roosa of FL; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren with another due any minute.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother: Robert Shelley; half-brother: Bruce Roosa; and daughter: Cynthia Marie Shelley.

Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Vernon Schmid will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time.

Interment with full military honors will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Shelley requested memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of the funeral home.
