Raymond Laverne Sommers, born in White Pigeon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Walker Sommers, sister Marlene, children Connie and Nathan, 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Delores, Richard, and Kenneth, and daughter Kathleen. Raymond was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by his unwavering faith in God, his love for his family, and his dedication to serving others. A strong man of faith, Raymond spent much of his life actively involved in his church and community. He faithfully served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of North East and was deeply passionate about sharing God's word with young people through directing children's worship programs. His commitment to ministry touched countless lives and helped guide many children in their spiritual journeys. Raymond also proudly served his country for seven years with the Maryland National Guard. His military service reflected the same qualities that defined his life: discipline, humility, loyalty, and a willingness to serve others before himself. Outside of his faith and service, Raymond enjoyed many hobbies and interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He was an avid coin and stamp collector who appreciated history and the stories behind every piece in his collection. He loved spending time outdoors and created treasured memories camping with his grandchildren, sharing with them his love of nature, adventure, and family. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Raymond was actively involved in community sports teams and was known as a talented basketball player in his younger years. Whether on the court, in the community, or with his family, he approached life with enthusiasm, determination, and a warm sense of humor. Though Raymond's earthly journey has ended, his family finds comfort in knowing he has entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, whom he faithfully served throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, church family, and all who were blessed to know him. "Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
