Peter Moore Williams, age 91 of Charlestown, MD passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Pete was born in Charlestown, MD on March 11, 1933 to the late Dorothy Heisler Moore.  He was married to the love of his life, the late Jane Doss Williams for 70 years.

In 1952, Pete would have graduated from North East High School, but could not as he was actively serving his country with the U.S. Army in Germany.  He served from 1950-1952, having obtained the rank of Staff Sargeant. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1953-1954 with the same rank.  Finally, Pete served with the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1954-1957 as a Technical Sargeant.  He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #6027, North East, MD and American Legion Post #135, Perryville, MD.

Peter retired after 25 years from General Motors, Boxwood Road Plant as the Body Shop Foreman, having worked his way up the ranks.

Pete was a Charter Member of the Charlestown Fire Company. He held all ranks as Fireline Officer as well as being Past President.  He was the founding Director of the Community Ambulance Service as well as having served as a Director of the Blood Bank of Cecil County.

Pete loved his Charlestown, having played on the town baseball and basketball teams.  He was also a long-standing member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Charlestown.  He served as Sunday School Superintendent as well as Treasurer and on the Board of Trustees.

Pete also served as a member of the Cecil House Restoration Committee and was a Charter Founder of the Historic District, President of the Zoning Appeal Board, Chief Election Judge, Treasurer, Deputy Sheriff, and served 5 terms as a Town Commissioner, including President.

Some of Pete’s other endeavors were Chairman of the Board of Social Services, Chairman of the Board of Help & Spouse Abuse Center, Board members of C.A.R.C. Detention Center, Cecil & Family Partnerships, Selective Service System, Cecil Community College Foundation, and President of Cecil/Harford County Chapters of the MD Municipal League.  Pete also served as Judge of the Orphans Court and was a member of Union Lodge #048 AF & AM and of Tall Cedars Lebanon Forest #142.

Survivors include his children: Catherine Jane Abrams & her husband, Curtis of North East, MD, Debra Williams McGuirk & her husband, Michael of Perryville, MD; grandchildren include: Samantha Jane Campo & her husband, Mark of King of Prussia, PA, Kelly McGuirk Keeton & her husband, Justin of Rising Sun, MD, Mary Catherine Michaels & her husband, Tom, of Lancaster, PA, and Joseph P. McGuirk & his wife, Meghan of Conowingo, MD. Also included are eight great grandchildren: Katie Keeton, Connor Michaels, Jackson Keeton, Mia Campo, Maggie Michaels, Mitchell Campo, Ty McGuirk and Callan Michaels. He is also survived by a sister: Jeannette Williams Armour-Diamonte, of Elkton, MD.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and Caraway Manor for their wonderful care.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Charlestown Cemetery, 226 Market Street, Charlestown, MD.
