Nellie O. (Mercer) Gray

Nellie O. Gray, 90 years young of Perryville, MD, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2016.

Born in Norfolk, VA, on October 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Lewis W. and Oresa (Owens) Mercer.  In 1943 she met and married Rev. Edward G. Gray, Jr.  They were married 67 wonderful years prior to his passing on August 28, 2010.

Mrs. Gray served as Librarian for Cecil County Public Library until her retirement.

She was an avid reader, wonderful gardener and fabulous cook.  A strong supporter of her husband’s ministry, Mrs. Gray never met a stranger.  She was a friend to all, showing a true love of everyone around her but also sharing with them her great sense of humor.  She was the epitome of Grace and Beauty.

Survivors include her children: Connie Orser of New Brunswick, Canada, Sandra Price of Barrington, NH, Edward Gray III of North East, MD, Wayne Gray of PA, the late Phillip Gray and Resa Laird of North East, MD; a brother: Robert Mercer of Burlington, NC and sister: Nancy Hadad of York, ME.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her brother: Lewis Mercer and her sister: Barbara Mercer.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. David Price will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD.

Interment will follow services in Principio Cemetery, Perryville, MD.
