Ned W. Schoonover , 85, of North East, MD died on February 21, 2012 after a short illness at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center in Rising Sun, MD. Ned was born on September 30, 1926 in Kansas City, MO. Ned joined the Navy after graduation from high school, and he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander with 23 years of service. Upon Naval Service retirement, Ned joined FMC Corporation as a Senior Accountant in Fredericksburg, VA. He transferred to FMC in Baltimore MD as their Accounting Manager, and he retired after 23 years of service. On October 4, 1947, Ned married Inza Lea Manson of Kansas City, MO. They had two daughters – Gloria Schoonover Clark and Susan Schoonover LaLonde. Due to Ned's naval service assignments, the family moved frequently with his last assignment in Virginia Beach, VA where he was captain of the USS Terribone Parrish LST 1114. Ned became re-acquainted with his high school girlfriend, June Judy Neal Ragan, through Classmates.com. After a whirlwind courtship, Judy moved to North East, MD where she and Ned were married on January 10, 2005. Ned and Judy lived in Chesapeake Isle for 6 years in their home overlooking the Elk River. Judy died on November 17, 2010. Ned enjoyed photography and taking scenic pictures of the Chesapeake Bay. Ned and Judy also enjoyed participating in Chesapeake Isle committees and functions, as well as church activities and services with Bethel Lutheran Church. Ned is survived by his daughter and his son-in-law, Susan and Tarry LaLonde of North East, MD. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Robert LaLonde, James LaLonde, Roger LaLonde and Kathryn LaLonde Keegan. James LaLonde is married to Janette Kincaid LaLonde and they have 4 children: Connor, Caden, Sophia and Samuel. Kathryn Katy LaLonde Keegan is married to Nathaniel Nate Keegan. Additionally, Ned is survived by Judy's daughters: Jan McConnell, Kathy Whalen Moss and her husband Graham Moss, and Nancy Long and her husband, Dr. Edwin V Long. He is also survived by his niece, Annaliz Silveira and her husband, Ron Silveira. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in North East, MD on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 1 PM. A reception will immediately follow at Woody's Crab House. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 24 Cameron Road, North East, MD 21901. Private Interment with military honors will be Monday, February 27, 2012 in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD.
