Minnie Catherine Mowbray

Minnie Catherine Brown Mowbray, 83 of Rising Sun, MD, died Sunday, March 4, 2007 in the Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. Born in Theodore, MD, on May 1, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Lewis B. Brown, Sr. and the late Martha Elizabeth Harris Brown. She was the wife of the late Grover K. Mowbray, Sr., who died in 1998. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, Mrs. Mowbray graduated from North East High School in 1941. She worked as a Waitress at Rising Sun Hotel, Toll Collector at Hatem Bridge, Ammunition Plant Worker at Triumph Explosives during WWII, at Leslie Cannery, and as a Nurse's Aide and Charge of Ward at Delaware State Hospital. She also worked as a cashier at Cecil County Dragstrip during the 1970's and 1980's. She was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church, Rising Sun, MD and attended Grace Baptist Church, Zion, MD. Survivors include two daughters: Gloria J. Mowbray of Rising Sun, MD, Debbie Mowbray Croom of Fayetteville, NC; one son: Andrew J. Mowbray of Rising Sun, MD; two sisters: Ella M. Perkins of North East, MD, Bertha Church of Drumore, PA; three grandsons, Harvey L., Matthew J. and Evan D. Mowbray of Rising Sun, MD; one granddaughter, Brandy L. Mowbray of Winston-Salem, NC; a great granddaughter, Alex Martin of Littlestown, PA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by: a son, Grover K. Mowbray, Jr., two brothers, Lewis B. Brown, Jr., and Harvey A. Brown; and three sisters, Anna E. Payne; Emma L. Christensen;and Sarah Jane Perkins. Funeral service will be held Friday, March 9, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where family and friends may call Thursday evening from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Interment will be in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
