Mike was born in Duluth, MN to Barbara and Donald McLish.
He grew up in Chester Park with his older brother Donald and his younger sister Patty. He enjoyed family lake vacations in the summer and was an avid fisherman his whole life. Mike graduated from Central High School in 1966 and felt a strong connection to his class and community. Mike was a talented piano player who played by ear. As a child, he hid the fact he could not read music by asking his teacher to play newly assigned songs for him. Once he heard it, he could play it. Mike helped build community with his playing and in his younger years played at the World-Renowned Murphy’s Lounge in downtown Duluth. He used his musical talent to connect with friends and family and often played with others. For most of his career, Mike was a salesman, manager, and owner at Lindor Piano; and later a salesman and manager at Lindor Ward Piano.
Near the end of his career, he sold real estate in Northern Wisconsin. Mike was a kind and generous man. He was quick to share a laugh and did not hesitate to show up for the people that he loved. He married Kay in 1995 and found much happiness in the life they built together in Solon Springs, WI. They hosted theme parties with the Magnificent Seven, created beautiful gardens, and fished together. He also stayed connected with old friends and spent most Wednesdays eating lunch with Peter Austin, Ron Abernethy, and Stan Gershgol. Mike was a dedicated parent who did everything he could for his family.
He moved to Maryland 4 years ago to be closer to most of his children and grandchildren. He adored his grandchildren and shared many happy moments with them. His unconditional love was a constant in their lives.
Surviving loved ones include: his loving wife Kay McLish, his sister Patricia McLish, and her husband Medric Godbout; his children including Jennifer McLish, Steve Wimer, and his wife Melinda Wimer. He leaves behind his grandchildren Bradley (Nicole) Wimer and Timothy (Samantha) Wimer; Samuel and Violet Roecker, and greatgrandchildren Easton, Austin, and Danielle Wimer.
There was no one quite like Mike McLish and we will miss him dearly.
