Melva Eileen (Kincaid) Simmers

Melva Eileen Kincaid Simmers, 102, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022 in the Accent Care Hospice section, Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born in Colora, MD, on September 14, 1920, she was the last living child of the late Charles Herman Kincaid and Louisa (Jourdan) Kincaid. Melva was the wife of the late Clyde Simmers who passed away in 1983; and the mother of son Jerrald Simmers (Chris) who passed away in 2015. Melva was a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor. She was well known for her delicious cakes, rolls and pies, especially her apple pie. She played softball and field ball in high school. She enjoyed caning chairs and making candles; was a member of the Woodlawn Homemakers, North East Lions Club, Methodist Women, Cecil County Historical Society, and played Five Hundred in her card club. Melva was active in Meals on Wheels and was an Avon Sales Representative. She also enjoyed dancing, both ballroom and square dancing. Survivors include: her son Ken Simmers, Sr. (Val) of Charlestown, MD; daughters Melanie Schreiber (Udo) and  Lori Geckle (James) all of Rising Sun, MD; grandchildren Kenneth Simmers, Jr. (Kelly) of Port Deposit, MD; Cristina Simmers of Falls Church, VA; Kamala Schreiber of Carbondale, CO; Zachary Schreiber (Sabine) of Lenoir, NC; Beau Schreiber (Ashley) of Conowingo, MD; and Elizabeth Geckle of Lancaster, PA; and her great grandchildren Luke Vicari (Jessica) of Cecilton, MD; and Harper and Blaike Schreiber of Conowingo, MD. In addition to her husband, parents and son, Melva was also preceded in death by 6 brothers: Edward, Charles “Happy”, Paul, Ernest “Hank”, Roger “Pete”, Emil Lee Kincaid; and 6 sisters: Brenice Kincaid Angell, Elizabeth Kincaid, Sarah Kincaid Burlin, Vesta Kincaid, Leone Kincaid Monscevitz and Margaret Kincaid. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Tim Beardsley and her grandson, Elder Ken Simmers, Jr. will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 1072 Ebenezer Church Road, Rising Sun, MD, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
