Marguerite Russell Baker, 87 of North East, MD, died Friday, June 1, 2007 at home. A lifelong resident of North East, she was born on May 20, 1920, the daughter of the late Thomas and the late Mary Boulden Russell. Mrs. Baker was the wife of the late Cortland A. Baker. Marguerite retired from DuPont Co., Wilmington, DE. She owned and managed "Baker's Tavern" on Main Street in North East, currently Woody's Crab House, for many years. Marguerite loved North East, calling it "Charm Town". During the flood, she still would not leave North East. She told everyone how much she loved her family and the people of North East. She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart. She never turned anyone away from her business or home. Her family enjoyed her company for holidays and special occasions. The families of Roland Russell, Wm Russell, Ruth Brooks Smith and Cathy Kempski and many others enjoyed many holidays, reunions and picnics with Aunt Marguerite. Survivors include: Her nieces and nephews: Ruth Brooks Smith of Elkton, MD; Roland Russell of Elkton, MD; Mickey Schuster of GA; Shirley Dunlap of PA; and Audrey Russell of Earleville, MD. She will be sadly missed by her caring niece, Janeen Rambo Whalen, with whom she lived, and Cathy Kempski who had the honor of her care. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by: her siblings: Catherine Russell Anderson; Louise Russell Lecuk; Walter Russell; and Chester Russell; also her nephews: Raymond, Wm. and Chester Russell; and a niece Emma Russell Jones. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Rev. Daniel T. Gedman will officiate. Interment will follow in Bay View Cemetery, North East, MD.
