Louis A. Schneider, 91 of North East, MD, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at home. Born in Baltimore, MD, on November 15, 1917, he was the son of the late Alwin Charles and the late Julia Mildred Scheidt Schneider. Mr. Schneider was the beloved husband of Irene Schneider, of North East, MD. He served four years during World War II in the Navy. He was the Yard Supervisor and a Stockholder of Bay Boat Works for over 52 years. He was an avid boat racer, racing inboard hydroplanes from the 1940s until the early 1980s. He raced against the nation's top competitors, winning many races. He became a member of the 100 Mile Per Hour Club in Miami, FL long before such top speeds were commonly attainable. Mr. Schneider was a member of VFW Post 1400, North East United Methodist Church, North East, MD and St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church, North East, MD. Mr. Schneider is also survived by his step children: Beverley Bensticker of Aiken, SC; Charlene Remington of Orlando, FL; Carole Christ of Philadelphia, PA; Kenneth J. Smith of York, PA; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Schneider of Baltimore, MD; and his nephew Alwin Schneider of Baltimore, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday August 27, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church, 928 Turkey Point Road, North East, MD. Father Joseph Piekarski and Rev. Dan Gedman will officiate. Interment will be Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.
