Loretta May Stigliano, whose generous spirit, caring nature and mischievous sense of humor earned the love of everyone who knew her, died on Tuesday, December 27th, 2016 just a few weeks short of her 90th Birthday. Loretta was born in Perry Point, Maryland in 1927 to Anthony and Concetta LaMonica, and lived in that state for most of her life, primarily in a big house on the North East river, where she and her husband Nick raised eight children.

She began her training as a nurse in 1943 and was expected to go overseas, but World War II ended just before she received her certificate. Soon after the war she met Nickolas Stigliano, a firefighter and war veteran, and they married in 1950. She began working nights when her first child, Yvonne, was born and remained on the night shift for the remainder of her career.  She is remembered by all as being always busy, always short of sleep, but never without her sense of humor.

Survivors include her seven children, Yvonne Cimo of Bridgeville, DE, Nickolas C. Stigliano II of Omaha, NE, Francis V. Stigliano of Fairfax, VA, Loretta Stigliano of Middletown, DE, Charles Stigliano of Malden, MA, Monica Stigliano-Stormo of Lone Pine, CA, and Michelle Stigliano of Elkton, MD; and her 8 grandchildren, Peter Akers, Paul Akers, Joshua Stigliano, Zachary Stigliano, Michael Lockhart, Natalie Lockhart Fergusen, Angela Stigliano and Raphael Stigliano.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her two siblings, Vincent LaMonica and Josephine Ward. She lost her youngest son, Joseph Stigliano in August of 1991.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main St., North East, MD.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church, 928 Turkey Point Road, North East, MD.

Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Cherry Hill, MD.

A luncheon will follow at approximately 1:30 - 1:45 pm.  Details will be announced.

The family would like to thank the staff at Elkton Transitional Care for the excellent care given to their mother.
