Lois Elizabeth "Betty" Young, 95, formerly of Rising Sun, MD, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was born on November 28, 1929, in Baltimore, MD. She departed from this world peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, November 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength.
Betty dedicated many years of her life to serving her community. In her early years, she worked at Dolly's in Ellicott City, MD. Best ice cream ever! She worked at the Columbia Daycare in Columbia, MD, which she enjoyed for many years. She accompanied her husband to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where she worked at the seminary daycare. After graduation and a move with the family to IL, she worked at Cooks Baptist Bookstore. The family relocated back to MD, where she then went back to Columbia Daycare. When her husband was called to Pleasant View Baptist Church in Port Deposit, MD, Betty worked at Calvert Manor Nursing Home. She then went to work at Aberdeen Proving Ground and finished her career of many years at Perry Point VA Medical Center. Her most important job was raising her 5 daughters.
A cherished member of the First Baptist Church of Perryville, MD, Lois found solace and joy in her faith. She enjoyed watching The 700 Club, on the Christian Broadcasting Network. She loved sharing her faith and would send daily devotional encouragements to everyone she knew.
She loved to sew, bake, and crochet, sharing her talents with everyone she met. She was a gifted watercolorist and loved making her "Butterfly Blessings" notecards.
Betty is survived by her devoted daughters, Gayle Brandt (Jeff) of Havre de Grace, MD, Robin Oltmann (Paul) of Salisbury, MD, Holly Buckhalt (Mark) of Lexington, VA, Terrie Stike (Mark) of Elkton, MD, and Sandy Jackson (Marvin) of Aberdeen, MD. She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and a loving great-grandmother of 17. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Anton Anderson and Lydia Marie (Johansson) Anderson, her 9 siblings, her husband, Ralph Sherwood Young, and her grandson, David Watkins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday evening, November 20, 2025 at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where funeral service will held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 10:00 am.
