Leonard V. Paul, Sr., 92, a longtime resident of North East, MD, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 in the Chester River Manor Nursing Home, Chestertown, MD. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on May 23, 1915, he was the son of the late Samuel O. and the late Harriett A. Carpenter Paul. He was the husband of Dorothy Bateman Paul who died in 2002. Mr. Paul was owner and operator of L.V. Paul & Sons, West Grove, PA from 1960 until 1977. He was also a Prudential Insurance Agent. He served the war effort at Sun Shipbuilding, Chester, PA. Mr. Paul was a member of St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, North East, MD; the Scottish Rite, Valley of Philadelphia, Prospect Lodge #578, A.F. & A.M. in Prospect Park, PA; the Delaware Knights of Magic, Wilmington, DE; the American Radio Relay League and the North East River Yacht Club. He enjoyed woodworking and music recording. He is survived by: his children: Leonard V. Paul, Jr. of Deltaville, VA and Mary Carolyn Shipley of Cambridge, MA; and a brother: Norman R. Paul of Media, PA. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son: David G. Paul who died in 1961. Friends may call Monday, February 4, 2008 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where a Masonic Service will be held. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 4, 2008 at 2:00 PM at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East, MD. Father Samuel Hartman will officiate. Interment will be private at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Broomall, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Mary Anne's Outreach Program, in care of the funeral home.
