Leonard Warren Greek

Leonard Warren Greek, 64 of Winchester, VA, formerly of Delta, PA entered into glory on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at his home in Winchester, VA.

He was the beloved husband of his surviving wife Dr. Valerie D. Greek, retired U.S. Coast Guard Chief.

Mr. Greek was born July 5, 1959, in Baltimore, MD. He was one of three children of the late William Warren Greek and Bertha May (Tankersley) Greek.

In 1973 Bill and Bertha moved their family from Maryland to Pennsylvania to a small farm on River Rd in Lower Chanceford Township.

Leonard was a young inquiring teen when he arrived and worked for Mr. Paul King, a local dairy farmer. It was there that Leonard fell in love with and learned the dairy cow business.

Mr. Greek eventually started and built up his own dairy herd from scratch, which is a remarkable accomplishment. He eventually acquired more farm ground and became a very competent farmer and was well known in the area for growing great crops of soybeans, corn, and wheat. He worked hard establishing his career, growing crops, caring for cattle, and he enjoyed spending long hours plowing shirtless on open cab John Deere tractors.

Additionally, Leonard was civic-minded and served on the planning commission for several years, giving advice and sharing wisdom on agriculture preservation. Leonard also received many accolades throughout the years for his top producing dairy herd, conservation practices and participating in numerous cow shows. Leonard was skilled at woodworking, a passion he learned from his father, and built several pieces of furniture that he and his wife Valerie enjoyed in their home. He also enjoyed rebuilding muscle cars, with his pride and joy being his yellow 1977 Malibu Classic which recently received a new engine. Leonard and Valerie enjoyed taking the car to shows in the Winchester, VA area.

In 2019, after many years of having a profitable farming business Leonard made the decision it was time to retire from farming and sold his farm to an Amish family.

He subsequently moved to Winchester, VA with his wife Valerie and accepted a position in the same field as an agricultural lead at the Western Maryland’s Research & Education Center in Keedysville, MD.

Survivors include all of his four children, Stormi Barona (Dustin), of Red Lion, PA, Michael Greek (Sarah), of Windsor, PA, Stevie Storck (Anthony), of Windsor, PA, and Frances Greek of Los Angeles, CA and his older brother David Greek (Mary) and younger sister Patricia DeMond (Leon).

Grandchildren: Haven Barona, Glory Barona, Behrgen Greek, Boaz Greek, Merit Barona, Sage Storck, Sona Storck.
