Leonard A. Brown, Jr.

Leonard A. "Doc" Brown, Jr., 86 of North East, MD, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in Elkton on November 2, 1924, the son of the late Leonard A. Brown, Sr. and Gertrude Laird Brown. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1941 and attended the Maryland Institute of Art, Baltimore, MD. Doc served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He served in the MD Army National Guard from 1949-1984. He retired as a First Sgt. and Administrator of the Elkton Armory with over 30 years of military service. He also was the owner and operator of Brown's Sign Painting for many years. Doc was a Charter and Life Member of V.F.W. Post 6027, North East, MD; Founding Member of the Elkton Lions Club and a member of the 29th Division Association, Post 85. He is survived by his son: Terry L. Brown and favorite daughter-in-law, Patricia A. "Trish" of North East, MD; stepdaughter, Theresa C. Wood; 3 grandchildren: Catherine L. Brown, Christopher A. Brown and Robert M. Riel; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Dorothy L. Brown 1970; his second wife: Mary A. Brown 2000; 2 sisters: Annamary Karl and Gertrude Comly; 2 brothers: John E. Brown and Kenneth A. Brown, Sr.; and a very special nephew, Kenneth A. Brown, Jr. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening, March 22, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD and again on Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM prior to services. Funeral services, conducted by Father Samuel Hartman will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A. Interment with full military honors will follow services in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 29th Division Association, in care of the funeral home or to the charity of your choice.
