Leon A. Whitehead

Leon A. Whitehead, 81 of North East, MD, died Sunday in the Laurelwood Nursing Center, Elkton, MD. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in Bay View MD, on July 4, 1926, the son of the late Amos Orlando and the late Lolla Ashworth Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead was the loving husband for 57 years of Mary J. Whitehead of North East, MD. He served during World War II in the Army. He retired after 25 years as Assistant U.S. Post Master at the North East Post Office. Mr. Whitehead was a Lifetime Member of V.F.W. Post 6027, North East, MD and North East Vol. Fire Co.; a member for 60 years of American Legion Post 194, Rising Sun, MD; and a member of North East United Methodist Church. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include: two daughters: Linda J. Powers of North East, MD; Sharon L. Smith of Rising Sun, MD; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 11:00AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where family and friends may call the evening before from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
