Lela “Susan” Jackson, 65, of North East, MD, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, after a short battle with lung cancer, in Newark, DE.
Susan was born in Havre De Grace, MD, on November 2, 1960, to the late James “Pete” Jackson and late Janice (Stewart) Jackson.
Susan graduated from North East High School in 1978. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with a severe mental illness, but didn’t let it define her. She still remained smart, funny, generous, and very loving to her family. She faced her life and her illness with such extreme courage. Susan adored watching her nieces and nephews grow up. In her free time, she enjoyed baking, arts & crafts, any type of shopping, Christmas, and Diet Coke. Due to her illness, she really appreciated her independence and enjoyed being employed by Dollar Tree.
She is survived by two sisters: Oakley Jackson (Bruce Stoops) and Jessie Lynn Thomas (Kerry). As well as her nieces and nephews: Zackary Wiseman (Susanne), Samantha Van Camp (Don), Annie Barry (Joe), Adam Molands (Beth), Julie Hall, Kelly Swartz (Travis), Steve Thomas and Josh Thomas (Rossy). She is predeceased by her father, James “Pete” Jackson; her mother, Janice Stewart Jackson; her brother, Daniel Jackson; and her sister, Lisa Ann Jackson-Molands.
