Lawrence E. Jackson, 93 of North East, MD passed away Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 in Naples, FL one week shy of his 94th birthday. Born December 15, 1915 in Elk Mills, MD Lawrence was the son of the late Ella and Howard Morton Jackson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Peg Jackson of North East, MD as well as his 4 siblings Jim Allen, Morton Jackson, Richard Jackson Sr., and Rachel Peterson. Lawrence worked for the Railroad for 35 years as a welder. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Charlestown, MD. He was an avid baseball player and even played in a semi-pro team for Wilmington, DE. Lawrence broke many baseball records for Cecil County in his time. Lawrence and his wife Peg moved to FL in 1976 and spent 23 years fishing, boating, and walking on the beach together. He is survived by a daughter, June Horstead and her husband Dane Horstead of Naples FL; a son, Larry Jackson and his wife Evelyn Jackson of Naples FL; three Grandchildren Kevin Wiles of North East, MD; Robin Mueller of Naples, FL; and Candace Vogelsong of Fair Hill, MD. He also leaves behind 4 great-grand children and 2 great-great-grand children. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 15 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Jim Murphy will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
