Kermit Lewin DeBoard, age 72, of North East, Maryland, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004, in North East, Maryland. Born in Grassy Creek, North Carolina, on February 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Eugene J. DeBoard and Jane M. Segraves. He was a resident of Cecil County, Maryland for 62 years. Mr. DeBoard retired from the B&O/CSX Railroad after 42 years of service. He served with the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. Mr. DeBoard was a member of the Cecil County Historical Society, Cecil County Bi-Centennial Committee, and he was founder and President of the Cecil Round Table. He researched local history and wrote articles and books in the interest of preserving our history and making it come alive for future generations. In keeping with his love of history, Mr. DeBoard also belonged to the North/South Skermish Association. He also belonged to the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and served as past chairman. Mr. DeBoard is survived by his wife, Margaret DeBoard; his children, Stephen D. Simpers, North East, Maryland, and Richard D. Simpers, Rising Sun, Maryland; siblings, Joanne Johnson, Newark, Delaware, and Arlene Crane, North East, Maryland; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. DeBoard was preceded in death by his children, Ashley DeBoard, Suzanne Rallis, and Herbert L. Simpers, Jr.; and his sister, Glenna Argarbright. Family and friends may call Thursday, April 1, 2004, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, Maryland. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, April 2, 2004, at the funeral home. The Rev. Andrew Parrett and Rev. Jim Rogers will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Bank Cemetery, Calvert, Maryland, with full military honors by the American Legion Mason-Dixon Post 194, Rising Sun, Maryland.
