Kenneth Harold Porter

Kenneth Harold Porter, age 79 of North East, MD, passed away on January 11, 2023 surrounded by his family at the Elkton Care and Rehab Center, Elkton, MD.

Born in Richlands, VA, on March 27, 1943, he was the son of the late James E. Sr. and Mabel (Sawyers) Porter.  He grew up in the coal mining regions of VA, WV and KY.

Ken came up to MD in 1961, where he worked at Bata Shoe Factory in Belcamp, MD.  He went to work for Chrysler Corporation in 1966, where he eventually retired after 30 years in 1997.

Ken was a family man, a Godly man, who loved old classic cars and was a fantastic guitar player.  He loved to sing and play the old Gospel music that he grew up listening to. Ken and his wife helped with many local churches playing music for over 40 years.  They also had a nursing home music ministry for 18 years and a prison ministry for 5 years.  He and his wife crossed the ethnic and racial cultural lines in their outreach of the Gospel.  Ken also had a great love for his Spanish friends and attended their services for 10 years.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 54 years: Marjorie Porter; daughters: Janet Lynn (Gary) of Delaware City, DE, Sara Louise (Steve) of Coatesville, PA, and son: Kenneth L. Porter of Elkton, MD; seven grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers: James Porter (Teresa) of Bel Air, MD, Jerry Porter (Malinda) of Port Deposit, MD, Frank Porter (Sandra) of Conowingo, MD; and sisters: Patricia Bandy (James) of Tazewell, VA and Christina Childress (Scott) of Havre de Grace, MD.  Ken also adored his beloved cat, Bootsy.

The Porter family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their outstanding compassionate care, support and love during Ken’s illness.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, family would like donations to St. Jude and Shriners Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
