Kenneth Kerns, 70, of Abingdon, MD, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Born in North East, MD, on October 21, 1955, Ken was the son of the late Elmer and Celia “Toy” Kerns.
A proud graduate of North East High School, Ken built a long and dedicated career in the printing industry. He began at D&B Printing in Newark, DE, later worked at the Aberdeen Proving Ground Printing and Publication Branch and the Government Printing Office in Washington, DC, and eventually returned to D&B Printing as a co-owner. In addition to his printing work, Ken owned and operated a lawn care business, tending to properties throughout Harford and Cecil Counties with the same care and reliability he brought to every part of his life.
But Ken’s work never defined him as much as his heart did. Ken’s true calling was helping others. He was the one that everyone called, not because they had to, but because they knew he would show up. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to lend a hand—whether to a friend, a family member, or a neighbor. Ken helped without hesitation and without expecting anything in return. He had a gift for making people feel supported, and he carried that quiet reliability into every relationship he had. Ken loved simple pleasures: a good conversation. He was a steady presence, and he had a way of making even ordinary moments feel meaningful. His family and friends will remember him for his generosity, his work ethic, and the countless small acts of kindness that stitched him into the fabric of his community.
Ken is survived by his sister, Margie Spotswood; brother-in-law Bob "Louie" Lewis, and his nieces and nephews Bob Lewis (Pam), Eric “Butch” Lewis (Amy), Cindy Miller (Kent), Keith Lewis (Danielle), and Stephen Spotswood (Jessica), and many great nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Lewis.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, at Crouch Funeral Home in North East, MD, with visitation beginning at 12 p.m.
