Kelsey Ambler Cox, Jr.

Kelsey Ambler Cox, Jr. passed away at the age of 78 in the comfort of his family at the Laurelwood Center, Elkton, MD. Born in North East, MD, on August 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Kelsey Ambler Cox, Sr. and the late Wanda E. Smith Cox. Kelsey was a life-long resident of North East and best known as the well liked, long time proprietor of the legendary Cox's Tavern on Main Street, where the times were always good. Those who knew him will remember Kelsey as a great listener, a reliable friend and trusted confidant. Kelsey's tavern patrons often shared their worries with him and over the course of many years it was not uncommon for him to find ducks, geese and rock fish in a bucket outside his door in appreciation of his loyalty. He served in the United States Navy, the Cecil County Liquor Board, the North East Planning Board, and was an honorary lifetime member of the North East Fire Company. He is survived by Faye, his wife of 57 years; his sister Rheda Bitler and her husband Bob; his son Kelsey Cox and daughter-in-law, Beverly; his daughter Lisa King and son-in-law, Curtis; his daughter Holly Bowers; and his close friend and hunting partner, Ellis Rollins. He took great pleasure in watching grandchildren; Stacie, Brandon, Drew, Kyle and Casey grow into healthy adults. His seven great grandchildren were a source of constant entertainment. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where family and friends may visit starting at 9:00 AM. Rev. Daniel T. Gedman will officiate. Interment will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in Kelsey's name to: Season's Hospice, 133 North Bridge Street, Elkton, MD 21921. For condolences, visit www.crouchfuneralhome.com.
