Katharine Mccarter Slaughter

Katharine McCarter Slaughter, 86 of Elkton, MD, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in the Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD. Born in Norton, VA, on September 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Roy Christopher and the late Fannie Bell McCullough McCarter. She was married for 65 years to Kenneth Clinton Slaughter who preceded her in death in 2004. Katharine traveled with carnivals as a child with her father, met and married her husband, and raised her two children, Jace Slaughter and Frank Slaughter "on the road." She and Kenneth owned and operated concessions on a number of different carnivals throughout the east for over 40 years. Much of their travel was with the Cetlin and Wilson Shows of Petersburg, Va. She was also a cosmetologist and operated a beauty salon in Tampa, Florida in 1958. In 1980 she and her husband retired from amusement business and moved to Cecil County to be near her sons. She proudly received her GED from the Cecil County Public Schools at the age of 74. Katharine enjoyed her dog, Bo, reading, knitting, sewing and embroidering for all of her family and friends. She especially enjoyed having her family close to her and playing with her great grandchildren. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Augusta, Georgia for over 50 years. Survivors include twos son and their wives, Jace and Mead Slaughter and Frank and Betty Slaughter of Elkton; four grandchildren and their spouses Jason and Wendy Slaughter of Columbia, MD, Cindy and Thomas Neuberger of Baltimore, MD, Stephany Slaughter and Victor Argueta of Alma, MI, and Clinton and Laura Slaughter of San Luis Obispo, CA; four great grandchildren, Nathan and Abigail Slaughter, Ana Sofia Argueta-Slaughter, and Theo Neuberger. Memorial Services will be private. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Susan B.
