June Judy Neal Ragan Schoonover, 84, of North East, Maryland, died following complications from lung cancer on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Gilchrest Hospice Care in Towson, Maryland. Judy was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 7, 1926. After attending Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri, she graduated from the University Of Missouri School Of Journalism in 1947. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. In September 1947, she married Allan P. Ragan of Kansas City. They raised their three daughters in Prairie Village, Kansas. Judy loved her career as a secretary in churches and schools in the Kansas City area, including Rolling Hill s Presbyterian Church, Notre Dame De Sion Lower School, and Leawood Presbyterian Church. She was an active and passionate member of Southminster Presbyterian Church for fifty years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, an elder, and a member of the Church Session. Following the death of her husband Allan in 2003, she became re-acquainted with her high school boyfriend Ned Schoonover through Classmates.com. After a whirlwind courtship, Judy moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she and Ned were married. Ned's family became her own, and she considered his daughter Susan her fourth daughter. She became an enthusiastic member of the Chesapeake Isle community where she and Ned spent six happy years in their home overlooking the beautiful Elk River, at the top of the Chesapeake Bay. Judy will be remembered for her optimism and happy outlook on life, her love of people, her outgoing and vivacious personality, and her love of creative writing. She also loved music, singing, and she never met a stranger. Judy is survived by her husband, Ned W. Schoonover, her three daughters, Jan McConnell, Overland Park, Kansas, Kathy Whalen, Oldham, England, and Nancy Long and her husband Dr. Edwin V. Long of Harrisonville, Missouri. She leaves three grandchildren, Joseph McConnell and his wife Valerie, Laura McConnell and Graham Long. She also leaves Ned's daughter Susan LaLonde and her husband Tarry, their children, Robert LaLonde and his girlfriend Sophia Goldsmith, James and Janette LaLonde, and their children Connor, Caden, Sophia and Samuel, Roger LaLonde, and Kathryn LaLonde and her fiancé Nathanial Keegan. A memorial service will be held at the Bethel Lutheran Church in North East, Maryland on Saturday, November 20th at noon. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas.
