Joseph Henry Mckinney

Mr. Joseph Henry McKinney, 86 of North East, Maryland passed away at Christiana Care, Union Hospital, Elkton, MD on June 22, 2024.  He was born and raised in North East, MD and graduated from North East High School in 1956.  After graduation, he was employed by several regional industries and then enlisted in the US Army in 1961.

Mr. McKinney’s assignments included Military Police and Criminal Investigation Command Regional Offices in: Verdun Caserne, France, Republic of Vietnam, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, Camp Zama, Japan, Ft. Greely, AK and numerous Temporary Duty assignments that encompassed working with USPS, DEA and Secret Service.  He retired in 1986.

Mr. McKinney was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening and had a gift for his craftsmanship of carving decoys.

Joe is preceded in death by his father, Willard McKinney, mother, Henrietta McKinney, brother, Willard McKinney Jr., brother, Mark McKinney, sisters, Jacqueline McKinney, Caroline Truit, Bertha Carter, goddaughter, Marsha Carter and companion, Joan Abel.

He is survived by his three children:  Timothy (Skye) McKinney, Keli McKinney- (Patrick) Wigley and Thomas (Shannon) McKinney, six grandchildren: Hannah McKinney, Spencer Wigley, Colin McKinney, Kaegan McKinney, Lauren Wigley and Lily McKinney, his former wife, Joan Shepherd McKinney, sister, Michael McKinney-Miller, sister, Linda Martino, sister, Lois Blansfield, sister, Lou Cranouski and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Sharon Ayers for her loyalty and dedication.
