JOHN CARLSON WHITE John Carlson White, 92, died peacefully early Thursday morning, November 20, 2008, at his home in Radnor, PA. He was born on January 17, 1916 in North East, Maryland, the son of the late Floyd and the late Elsie Carlson White. He graduated from Tome School, Port Deposit, Maryland in 1934 and then attended MIT from which he graduated with a BS degree with honors in Electrical Engineering in 1938. He began a long and distinguished career with the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1939. Notable were his positions as General Mechanical Superintendent Works Manager of the Juniata Locomotive Shops and the Heavy Repair Shop at Hollidaysburg, PA. After the merger of the PRR with the New York Central, he assumed the oversight of the following shops of the Penn Central System: Juniata, Hollidaysburg, Cleveland and Rochester. After leaving the Penn Central on March 31, 1976, he worked for Mechtron Industries in Wilmington, Delaware before becoming a worldwide consultant to the railroad industry. He was the railroad expert and consultant to the British banks that were involved with the funding of the Euro Tunnel Project. He and his wife, Emily, spent many years traveling to England and France on behalf of the completion of the Euro Tunnel. He also audited the equipment for the bond holders of the New York Transit Authority for many years. He worked as a consultant to railroads worldwide working in Scandinavia, Kuwait, Australia, and other foreign locations. John married Emily May Anderson of Wilmington, Delaware on November 16, 1943. They were married for sixty-two years. Emily preceded him in death on September 16, 2006. She was the love of his life. He is survived by the following children: Nancy White Rundell, wife of the Rev. Thomas William Rundell of Columbia, PA; John Carlson White, Jr., husband of Jane H. White of Burlington, NC; Janet White Jensen, wife of Eugene F. Jensen, Esquire, of Mays Landing, NJ; and David Anderson White of Radnor, PA. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Clayton White Rundell, husband of Megan A. Rundell; David White Jensen; and Stephen Eugene Jensen. Mr. White was a devoted father and grandfather. In addition to his four children and three grandchildren, he is survived by his two sisters: Selma White Cain and Edith White Hostetter, both of North East, Maryland as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Thomas Rundell, his son-in-law will officiate. Interment will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
