John Peter Martinuk, 91 of Elkton, MD, passed away on his farm with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Born in NJ, on January 26, 1920, he was the son of the late Peter and the late Catherine Resnick Martinuk. He was the husband of the late Nellie Mahala Martinuk. John owned and operated Martinuk's Poultry Farm and Egg Hatchery, the largest on the Eastern Seaboard; George's Restaurant, Beacon Hill Inn and West End Gardens, all in Elkton, MD. He was appointed by Gov. Tawes as Chair of the Poultry Commission to help Maryland Farmers. In addition, he was a Cecil County Realtor. John and his wife Nellie were compassionate and helped others in the community. He attended Union Hospital Adult Day Care. John resided with his son and family on the family farm that he worked and loved. Survivors include his children: Nancy Wess and her husband David of Chesapeake City, MD, Mary Martinuk and her companion Roland of North East, MD and Joseph Martinuk and his wife Cindy of Elkton, MD; 4 grandchildren: Nellie, J.J., Wyatt and John Peter; and 1 great grandson: Gary. In addition to his wife and parents, John was also predeceased by a son, John Peter Martinuk. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton, MD.
